• Rivers Correctional Facility Rivers Correctional Institution is a privately owned prison located on a 257-acre tract in a rural area west of Winton, North Carolina, in Hertford County, It is operated by GEO Group under contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons since its construction in 2001
  
  The facility is a 347,155 sq. ft. campus design with four housing buildings, indoor and outdoor recreational areas, a central programs building, an administrative building exterior to the two perimeter fences, a prison industries building, and four perimeter guard towers.
  
  Renovations include reconfiguring the Commissary, Warehouse, Education, and Industry areas.

• Lee Hall Train Depot Construction is complete at the Lee Hall Train Depot in Newport News, VA. This project consisted of site work and exterior rehabilitation of the existing Train Depot. The original construction, which dates back well over 100 years, presented both structural and architectural challenges to preserve the facility’s historic integrity. The Lee Hall community and the Friends of the Lee Hall Train Depot have worked diligently to reach this stage of the project and are excited about the exterior renovations being complete. Their goal is now raising the necessary funds for the final interior renovation phase to become a reality. Daniel Plyler was the project manager .

• Roanoke River Lighthouse The c.1885 Roanoke River Lighthouse is the last surviving square-sided screw-pile lighthouse. De-commissioned in 1955 and moved by boat from the mouth of the Roanoke River to a river-bank in Edenton the lighthouse was used as a private dwelling until the late 90s. We reconstructed the missing substructure by studying a few remaining photos like the one below, oversaw the restoration of the building and substructure, and directed the move from land to its new site in the river.

• Ark International Church A. R. Chesson Construction completed a new facility for Ark Church in Nags Head, NC. The structure, roof, and exterior wall panels were provided and erected by the ARCC PEMB division. The new 13,211 sq. ft. facility will be used as a family life center. The building has cooking and dining areas for church functions, a full basketball court, and an indoor batting cage. The basketball court will double as a roller skating rink accommodating hundreds of youth for the weekly Friday night roller skating event. • New Dixie Mart - Community No. 204 The Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for New Dixie Oil’s newest store located at 1609 Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids, NC. “We wanted to invest in our community and replace an existing facility with a state of the art facility. We are from here, live here, and we are going to be here for years to come,” said Scott Aman, President of New Dixie Oil Corporation. The new location features a grill to prepare hot food for customers and a kiosk from the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau with information on local attractions. • SECU - Hertford The new State Employees Credit Union in Hertford, NC opened in May, 2015 and is prominently located on US Highway 17. The 6,658 square foot structural steel and metal stud building includes brick veneer and a metal roof. There are four drive-through lanes, seven teller stations for walk-in customers, eight offices, and a Member Services desk.

• Elizabeth City Bridge Operators Building Construction of the new bridge tender’s house on the new eastbound Camden Causeway drawbridge over the Pasquotank River in Elizabeth City NC hit a major milestone recently. A. R. Construction was onsite coordinating placement of the roof structure as it was lifted into place. Plans call for opening the new drawbridge and starting renovation work on the westbound drawbridge by June 2015. The current bridge tender’s house will be removed from the westbound drawbridge during the renovation work.

• Huntington Park Tennis Center The newest amenity for the City of Newport News, Virginia, Parks & Recreation Department is now open. The 5,108 square foot project was designed by James River Architects to support the surrounding tennis facilities. The center contains large locker rooms, a conference room, support offices and storage rooms. The project was completed in May, 2015, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on June 25, 2015, at the new center. This is the latest of several renovations or new construction projects that ARCC has completed for New Dixie Oil Company. The new store includes a Shell gas station and a Hardees Restaurant. • College of the Albemarle Performing Arts Lobby ARCC was chosen to renovate the lobby of the existing Performing Arts Center (PAC) located on the Elizabeth City Campus. In addition to supporting the College population, the Center also serves a hub for the Performing Arts in the greater Elizabeth City community.
  
  College of The Albemarle’s PAC is a proscenium house that seats approximately 1,000 guests. The project scope included modernization of the existing lobby and foyer, including ceilings, walls, and flooring. In addition, the building was brought up to code with the installation of a new handicap ramp that featured prominently into the final aesthetic deliverable.

• James City County Fire Station Firefighters began using the new James City County Fire Station #4 in April, 2015. The 14,000 square foot, LEED Silver Certified fire station was designed by architectural firm, HVC Chenault. The new station is a significant upgrade from the previous building which was demolished on the same property. The new station has three bays and room for six apparatuses. The living area includes 12 dorm rooms, kitchen and dining facilities, fitness area, day room, and a training tower. The Project Manager was Daniel Plyler and David Brothers was the Site Superintendent.

• Warren Field Airport Terminal The City of Washington, NC, dedicated the new terminal building at the Washington-Warren Field Airport as part of the Memorial Day celebration. It is a project that has been three years in the making after a tornado destroyed the previous terminal building in July 2012. The new terminal is larger and was completed with the help of city, state, and federal money for $1.2 million. The previous building was constructed in 1975.
  The new terminal is now officially open for public use. The Project Manager was Will Gautier.

• Central Middle School Addition and Renovation Gates County Public school systems chose A. R. Chesson Construction to serve as their Construction Manager for their 42,400 square foot addition and renovations for Central Middle School. The additions include new classrooms and group toilets, staff toilets, administration offices, media center, and new gymnasium including lockers. Some of the renovations include new electrical to supply the HVAC systems, roofing, windows, and room finishes.. This is the second Construction Manager at Risk project ARCC has been awarded by GCS. The project manager is Daniel Plyler and the site superintendent is Brian Plyler.

• Edenton Police Station The Edenton Police Department project is making great progress. According to Project Manager, Adam Hughes, "Progress on this project is meeting scheduled expectations and we look forward to a May completion date." The roof membrane is in place, and the site is on grade with most concrete curb and gutter installed. The plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems are underway and approximately sixty percent complete. Brick veneer is nearly complete. The brick is being painted as specified by Oakley Collier Architects. Site improvements will begin in March and will be completed by mid-April. Hughes also states, "We enjoy occasional visits from Edenton Police Chief Jay Fortenbery who maintains a watchful eye over the project to monitor our progress."

• Jockey's Ridge State Park Renovations This projects renovates and expands the existing visitor center at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. The renovations primarily focus on the visitor experience, remaking the exhibit and lobby area. Select openings are cut into existing exterior and interior walls to increase natural light, connectivity, and visibility. The entry grows outward beneath the existing soffit to increase the lobby area, and a new canopy reaches out to welcome and orient visitors. The addition expands the existing office wing to aid staff operations, freeing up interior space to increase the size of the lobby.

• Roanoke/Cashie River Center Kayak Launch Two grants from NC Division of Coastal Management's North Carolina Public Beach and Coastal Waterfront Access Program, in cooperation with Stanley Thompson, land owner, were used to provide new and improved public access to the public waters of the Cashie River in Bertie County NC. The fully accessible design build project included a passive recreation fishing pier, a small boat launch transfer station, a connector boardwalk from parking to piers, and other site enhancements. The project also supports the town of Windsor’s ongoing eco-tourism efforts highlighting the Cashie River's resources. There were many collaborative partnerships to make the project a success: the Windsor Board of Commissioners, David Hodges, Jr. with Mid-East RC&D Council, Inc., Dr. Paige Viren and her students from East Carolina University Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies for planning and project support, private land easement for the site provided by Stanley Thompson, Vic Thompson from Bertie SWCD, and NC Division of Coastal Management for resources through their Public Access grant program.

  The project consists of an addition and renovations to the existing Dare County Department of Health and Human Services Facility. The existing buildings are two-stories, elevated wood framed floor structure over crawl space, cedar siding, cementitious siding, steel-framed buildings with associated interior renovations and upgrades to the existing facilities. The new addition is approximately 6,500 s.f. with a proposed elevated finish floor elevation of 13.00, to match existing finished floor elevation.

• NSU Bowser Hall Lab Renovations After a 45-day renovation, a former classroom has been transformed into an instructional woodworking shop at Bowser Hall on the campus of Norfolk State University in Virginia.
  The scope included demolition, new electrical circuits and light fixtures, new rooftop HVAC, dust collection system and installation of shop equipment. Finishes were updated by installing new drywall, VCT flooring and Corian solid surface wall caps, and painting throughout the space. New doors and access controls were also installed.

• Currituck Park Phase II It only took 10 days to install 14 field lights poles that will provide 144,000 watts of lighting to the new athletic fields at the Currituck County Community Park. The 60’-80’ tall fixtures were designed to withstand hurricane-force winds of 120 MPH. Installers utilized lasers to focus each of the 96 lights on specific parts of the fields. The park expansion also includes an Alpine Tower: a 50’ tall structure built with pressure treated timbers. The tower offers an ideal challenge course setting for fostering teambuilding and provides Universal Access for persons of all abilities.
  The new athletic fields are being constructed by a world-class turf contractor who has recently completed fields for several NCAA baseball stadiums as well as the Norfolk Tides and the Miami Marlins. Fields have over a mile of sub-drainage piping allowing them to dry quickly and efficiently after rainfall and irrigation.
  Footings are in place for the 2-story concession stand structure which consists of restrooms for the facility as well as a fully equipped kitchen and press box. There will be four pre-engineered picnic shelters to match the others on campus which will have powder-coated steel and standing-seam roofs. The project manager is Adam Hughes. The superintendent is Roger Steele.

• New Dixie Mart Gaston The town of Gaston, Northampton County officials and three chambers of commerce celebrated the opening of New Dixie Mart’s — a facility which combines the convenience store with Subway and Mama Deluca’s Pizza.
  
  It is a 6,000-square-foot building with the store occupying about 4,200-square-feet and Subway and the pizza store occupying around 1,600-square-feet said Scott Aman, president of New Dixie.
  
  The store has 16 fueling stations and construction is expected to begin next week on an automatic car wash. The store will be open 24 hours, Aman said.

• Nansmond Cold Storage Our PEMB division recently completed renovations for Nasemond Cold Storage at 190 County Road in Suffolk, VA. All panels were removed from the existing metal building and replaced with new 4” insulated panels on the roof and walls, new roof sheets on loading dock shelter and new interior wall liner panels. The new panels along, with the new cooling system will allow the owner to maintain a temperature of 65 degree’s to store peanuts.
